Finnish-Pakistani Friendship Organization (FPFO) is pleased to invite you all to Pakistani Independence day celebrations plus EID-ul-Fitr hangama on Sunday 11th of August 2013 at 14:30.

FPFO is the only active and representative organization of Pakistani community in Finland. There are almost 1200 people with Pakistani origin currently living in Finland, majority of them in the greater Helsinki region including Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen.

This has been our tradition to celebrate the independence of Pakistan since 2003 in Finland. We are keeping our promise intact to celebrate it again this year on 11th of August. This year the event will be a special once because we’ll have our EID festivities happening at the same time. So this event will be a unique combination of national pride/symbolism and religious integrity when we’ll celebrate both together on the same day.

Interesting enough? not really because the event day will be much more fun and full of cheerful moments when we’ll finalize our program. Many surprises are in the waiting for you to enjoy the day with other Pakistanis and obviously Finns friends will be there to witness the extreme festivities and our traditional ways of celebrating our National events.

Last but not least, Please click the “I’ll Join” button above and contact us if you have something to contribute in the program. We’ll need many volunteers to make it possible. Currently we are looking for active memebrs of community who could perform, present, prepare something on national or religious side of Pakistan on stage.

Since all FPFO programs are arranged on the basis of “Not for profit” therefore we are currently involved in negotiations with food suppliers for the best feasible price of entry tickets. We’ll inform about it here on this page lately.

Welcome and please do not forget to bring families, friends and foes :)

On this occasion , we would like to share the address of Mr. Kimmo Pulkkinen, First Ambassador of Finnish Embassy in Pakistan, on the occasion of the Pakistan Independence Day and Eid-Milan party of  the Finnish-Pakistan Friendship Organization on September 4, 2011

Dear friends
Asalam o´ leikumIt is a great honour to me and my wife Eija to greet you all at this Pakistan Independence Day and Eid-Milan -party.  Thank you for the kind invitation, Dr Syed Mujahid. In early 90´s, 20 years ago, we had the pleasure to live five memorable years in Pakistan. I was the first Finnish resident diplomat assigned to Islamabad and in October 1989 I opened the Embassy of Finland in the capital of that great country.

Recalling those years now one can only note how different a country Pakistan was that time. When we arrived the country had celebrated its 42 years of independence and had just started a promising period of democracy. In five years we could observe two or three national elections and several changes of government. Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif followed each other as prime minister but the changes took place in accordance with the constitution following normal democratic procedures.

As foreigners we were always welcomed by the people. Not only in the diplomatic circles in Islamabad but every where we went. And we did travel widely all over the country: Hunza, Baluchistan, Punjab, tribal areas in the North West Province – all the way to Khyber Pass, gun factories in Darra and missionary hospital in Tank. And of course: Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar. Peshawar was our favourite town: we enjoyed strolling in its bazar and eating in local restaurants delicious lamb made in traditional Pashtun way. Formal reason to several visits to Peshawar and Quetta was to see how the Finnish humanitarian assistance was distributed by the United Nations agencies at the Afghan refugee camps.

In Islamabad one could see us every Friday at the Juma Bazar spending up to the last rupee – but “money no problem”, became like a password. “Pay back next week”.

Pakistan has a special place also in the life of our family. The youngest son Ilari finished his high school in the International School of Islamabad. When other two children visited us we spent memorable holidays. One was a four day trip floating down on the Indus river. Traditional boats had no engine, no sails and the speed was as slow as the slow current of that great river. Nothing to do but waiting for the next meal that the boat crew prepared on open fire at the bottom of the wooden boat.

Another private trip was a five day camel safari with my daughter Pauliina in the Cholistan desert sleeping in tents between sand dunes. And the camels had no armoured shields and neither had we any armed security escort.

Unfortunately, the Pakistan we used to know is no more: we all know how difficult the political situation is now. But we should not loose sight of a better future. The Pakistani people deserve better and I am confident that they can find the way to improve the life of the people, overcome the current instability and insurgency and form a secure and stable government, InshAllah.

I and my wife would like to congratulate Pakistan on its Independence Day. We wish good luck and happiness to all of you at this Eid-Milan party and all the best to the Finnish Pakistan Friendship Organization.

Let me also present to the FPFO the book “Jasmiininkukka ja Kalashnikov  – tuokokuvia Pakistanista” by my wife Eija, written in Pakistan and I had the pleasure to provide some photos to it. Maybe Dr. Mujahid can make it available to the members of the FPFO circulating it among the members.

Shukria!

As you are aware, Still recovering from last year’s epic floods, Pakistan is yet again battling monsoon rains that have affected 5 million people and killed at-least 200 people. The most affected area this year is the Sindh province where the situation is already serious and there will be more flooding and more problems because of continued rains. This has not only forced people to leave their homes, but people are starving because most of the standing corps have been destroyed. Another main danger now is disease bred by stagnant water and the rotting corpses of drowned farm animals. As
ever, we have to stand up to the challenge and try our best to help our countrymen. There are several organizations leading the efforts. You can make donations to organizations such as Imran Khan Foundation at http://imrankhanfoundation.org.pk/learntohelp.php or any other organization of your choice. But Please donate generously since this is our own Responsibility. FPFO is not collecting the funds as yet, but if there is a demand to do so in order to avoid individual transfer costs, we will inshallah collect funds and transfer the sum to some reputed organization.
However FPFO is collaborating with PTI Finland for this cause, you can also make your donations using following details released by PTI Finland:
